What You Will Do

Gannett Fleming’s Power business is offering a career opportunity for an experienced Transmission and Distribution Engineer to join our team in Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, Phoenix, AZ, or Mt. Laurel, NJ.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated his/her ability to perform transmission and distribution project designs. A subject matter expert in the T&D field he/she understands the complexity of the electrical transmission line design process and can lead project discussions with clients and project staff as well as provide strategic input to the Gannett Fleming leadership team. The successful candidate will be committed to providing solutions to our clients and to growing the knowledge, skills and abilities of the Gannett Fleming team.


  • Design distribution and transmission line segments using PLS-CADD or other structural design software package.
  • Prepare design criteria documents and construction specifications
  • Prepare construction packages including structure details, material lists, staking tables, plan and profiles, and stringing charts.
  • Estimate costs, personnel, and materials needed for projects and establish completion dates.
  • Write, modify and review specifications based on NESC, IEEE, and NEC requirements and utility based best practice.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, routing studies, EMF calculations.
  • Oversee project implementation, including verification of foundations, structures, and equipment installation.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and other business development activities.
  • Traveling and visiting client sites during project definition and execution


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 5 plus years experience with electrical transmission and distribution design
  • Detailed knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and other applicable code/standards related to substation design.
  • High level of proficiency with PLS-CADD
  • Electrical utility or utility consulting experience
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 plus years experience with electrical transmission and distribution design
  • E.I.T. or P.E. license
