What You Will Do

As Gannett Fleming continues to grow and expand, we are looking for a talented Bridge Engineer to support our team in our Baltimore, MD office. We rely on our bridge engineers to perform design activities on various projects and to deliver high quality results for our clients.

In this role, you will need to perform structural analysis, design and detailed plan and quantities/estimate preparation of steel and concrete bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other related highway structures, as well as have a good understanding of highway and geotechnical engineering.  

The Bridge Engineer will also assist with performing bridge condition safety inspections. Some short-term travel will be required with these inspections. This role requires excellent communication skills, effective time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills.  A successfull candidate will be articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills.

Typical Duties

• Perform and check bridge geometry, structural design, and quantity calculations.
• Design and develop structure plans for other transportation structures such as culverts, retaining walls, utility vaults, noise abatement walls, pedestrian bridges, etc.
• Participate in the development of construction contract documents, such as specifications, cost estimates and review construction documents such as shop and working drawings.
• Perform bridge inspections, load capacity rating analysis, and develop structure inspection reports.
• Coordinate work activities and provide guidance to supporting staff
