What You Will Do

Gannett Fleming's Construction Management Group is looking for a Construction Inspector with water/wastewater and utilities infrastructure experience for a position in either Richmond, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.

  • Inspector must be able to assure compliance with federal, state and local codes and standards and contractual provisions.
  • Resolve disputes arising from interpretations of contract specifications by providing an authoritative source of information, interpretation, and decision making and thus facilitating timely completion of work-in-progress.
  • Initiate policies, procedures, and regulations necessary for efficient accomplishment of inspection operations and the effective interfacing with developers, contractors, consultants, and the general public.
  • Meet with consultant engineers, developers, contractors, state and federal agencies, and citizens to ensure proper coordination of all construction operations.
  • Ensure compliance with design plans, specifications and permit requirements.
  • Document contractor progress, maintain accurate records, process payment requests, generate punch lists and certify completion status
  • Oversee work in the field, coordinate materials, review schedules, enforce permit requirements, coordinate with municipalities, approve invoices, and review changes in work.
  • Document site activities accurately by maintaining accurate and current field books, construction reports, and as-built record drawings
  • Coordinate with City personnel, client, contractor, and project stakeholders during course of the projects
  • Advocate for site safety and coordinate with public for safety awareness
  • Perform quality assurance inspection of work activities
  • Coordinate special inspections, shutdowns, tie-ins and special assemblies
  • Responsible for contractor adherence to Technical Specifications
  • Monitor that all construction activities are being carried out in accordance with accepted safety rules, plans and procedures
  • Report deviations immediately to Stormwater CIP Manager
  • Perform MS4 inspections including dry weather screening, conveyance and structure system assessments, and stormwater management facility condition assessments.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates Degree in construction or technically related field preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Experience with  water and wastewater treatment plant rehabilitation projects is required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Field inspection required
  • Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or the ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Solid understanding of construction inspection services, including documentation preparation and control
  • Experience with quality assurance and quality control techniques.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for documentation and data management equipment 
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications
  • Skilled at applying mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments.
  • Ability to communicate inspection items effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers (i.e., contractors, owners, sub consultants, designers, architects and fellow team members).
  • Ability to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, periodic weekend and night work may be required
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain
