Responsibilities

Our Civil/Highway Engineering Practice is looking for a Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager (Highway Engineer) to join our Valley Forge Transportation Practice

 

As a key member of the Valley Forge Transportation Practice, the successful candidate will be responsible for engineering and management of major transportation projects in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and with PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and other agencies. The primary focus will be on highway and multi-disciplined transportation design projects such as traditional design-bid-build as well as design build and P3 delivery methods. As a Project Engineer responsibilities will include completion and oversight of all facets of design (Roadway, E & S, drainage, NPDES, etc.) for complex projects.  As an Assistant Project Manager responsibilities will include assisting the Project Manager on project delivery such as client coordination, coordination and oversight of subconsultants, coordination with third party entities, etc.

Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform design tasks, plans preparation, report preparation, and calculations for various transportation projects. 
  • Provide overall assistance in multifaceted highway/transportation projects. 
  • Perform quantity estimates, cost estimates, and prepare specifications.
  • Check calculations, reports, and drawings
  • Run models, CAD and design software – Microstation and InRoads Preferred
  • Perform Horizontal and Vertical Alignments designs.
  • Typical Sections, Drainage Design, Construction Staging/ Maintenance of Traffic
  • Assisting in the planning and coordination of activities of civil engineering projects to ensure that goals or objectives of these projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and clients
  • Coordinate the planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, of subcontractors and internal technical and support staff.
  • Oversee all aspects of design for complex highway projects.
  • Oversee and train staff on all aspects of design.

Job Requirements

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • 8-10 years progressive experience in the design of highway/roadway civil engineering transportation projects primarily in Pennsylvania
  • Licensed Pennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience Microstation and InRoads Preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working on/with design teams on large, complex engineering projects.
  • Must have knowledge and applicable experience with PennDOT’s approved design software packages in addition to MS Office Software
  • Working knowledge and experience with PennDOT and/or PTC policy, procedures and standards
  • Extensive experience of PennDOT design and management
  • Strong public speaking skills with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously both independently and also as an integral part of a design team
