What You Will Do

Gannett Fleming is looking for a dynamic Geologist to join our Jacksonville, Florida office. As a Geologist, you will be responsible for conducting environmental investigations and assessments, site remediation and monitoring, due diligence, and environmental compliance and permitting. Responsibilities will include:

  • Collecting soil, vapor, surface water, stormwater and groundwater samples according to FDEP and EPA Region 4 Standard Operating Procedures
  • Classifying soil and completing detailed boring logs during drilling and soil sampling
  • Providing field oversight of contractors during environmental field assessment including monitoring well installation, soil boring advancement, and source removal and remediation
  • Evaluating soil and groundwater data and completion of data tables and figures
  • Assisting with preparing various reports including Site Assessment Reports, Remedial Action Plans, and Site Monitoring Reports
  • Performing environmental compliance audits
  • Conducting Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments

This position will include a mix of field and office responsibilities and will require regional travel (approximately 50%) and working outside in a variety of weather conditions. Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum BS Degree in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Geologist license when experience requirements are met.
  • 2-3 years relevant experience in performing field work in environmental assessment and remediation.
  • Familiarity with FDEP Standard Operating Procedures is required.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office. 
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills. Ability to oversee contractors and direct work in a fast-paced environment.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training certificate and any applicable 8-hour refresher certificates.
  • Florida driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of GPS/GIS/AutoCAD is a plus.
