Gannett Fleming is looking for a dynamic Director - Virginia Transportation Practice to expand and lead our transportation business line in the state of Virginia. The successful candidate will have extensive management experience related to transportation, site-development, hydrology/hydraulics, and infrastructure design projects. An immediate and primary responsibility will be to promote business development and ensure financial viability of the business line in the State of Virginia.

Other major responsibilities include general business development, business environment, client relationship management, and the completion of projects within scope, schedule and budget, as well as other related management responsibilities:

  • Leading strategy for growth and development of Gannett Fleming engineering design and planning in the region
  • Manage large scale projects successfully specifically in the execution and delivery of highway/roadway projects and tasks.
  • Partner with regional leadership on targeted business development initiatives and analysis of financial performance data.
  • Support transportation civil/highway marketing efforts through exceptional project performance and proactive project pursuits
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors and client managers.
  • Support Project managers with local client management activities.

Coordinates direct reports on project execution, staffing, financial and other operating parameters to develop business plans designed to achieve operating performance of the region

Job Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field.

• Fifteen (15) or more years of experience managing Transportation and heavy civil infrastructure projects

• Licensed Professional Engineer in State of Virginia strongly preferred
• Proven experience and established relationships/recognition within VDOT is REQUIRED.
• Previous experience managing large, multi-discipline engineering projects. 
• Experience in engineering design services on traditional design and design-build projects.
• Thorough understanding of local and state review and approval processes.
• A business mindset with the ability and desire to successfully manage client relationships and the profitability of each project to ensure repeat business.
• Motivated by good client relationships and to provide deliverables under expedited deadlines.
• Ability to be a proactive business developer by seeking new opportunities and acting on them with the goal to expand the size of the office and annual revenue.
