What You Will Do

Gannett Fleming is currently looking for an experienced Cost Engineer to join our team in the greater San Francisco area. At a high level, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Working on a major California rail project (valued at roughly $700 M) in the construction phase, provide cost engineering services to the owner’s construction manager.
  • Assess the value of construction changes submitted by the design-build contractor.
  • Work with project contract administrator, scheduler and construction management team to assess, challenge and agree the dollar value of contract changes including direct and indirect components of changes.
  • Proficiency in the use of Bluebeam, spreadsheets and dedicated estimating software.
  • Reviewing contractor monthly progress reports and make recommendations on payment application
  • Providing technical advice to team members and clients on project constructability, logistics, phasing, alternatives and life-cycle considerations.
  • Providing value engineering feedback during all phases of design.
  • Preparing conceptual estimates, order-of-magnitude budgets, change order evaluations and check estimates.
  • Utilizing company and industry historical data for costing estimates.
  • Evaluating and reporting on the sufficiency of third-party estimates.
  • Assessing current and projected economic impacts on projects.
  • Must be a team player/problem solver.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant cost engineering/estimating experience (10 years+), preferably with an owner or construction management firm.
  • Significant experience in heavy construction including site work, deep foundations, supports of excavation, rail systems, site utilities, concrete and steel construction.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical rail industry estimating experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor degree is preferred but not required depending on experience.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to projects throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Expertise with MS Office software including Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Prior experience working on large urban transit projects is a plus.
