This position provides a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, energetic and experienced professional to work in a fast-paced environment with a collaborative team on corporate storytelling and high-level media relations, corporate positioning and reputation management, industry relations, executive communications, strategic corporate initiatives and multi-stakeholder communications.

Successful candidates will have experience with both proactive and reactive communications, possess strong writing and problem-solving skills, and be adept at managing competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop and manage integrated corporate communications programs that encompass media and influencer relations, digital and social media, internal communications, and marketing.
  • Identify, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with reporters, bloggers, social influencers at prominent industry and national media outlets and priority local market publications, as well as with key industry influencers at relevant associations.
  • Monitor industry trends to identify opportunities to inject Gannett Fleming’s story and key messages into the news cycles, and help shape and actively place newsworthy stories that convey core brand messages and position executives as industry thought leader to deliver positive media coverage.
  • Develop creative written materials that leverage appropriate tone, content, etc., to engage target audiences and reflect an understanding of our business, including press releases, pitch letters, background materials, planning documents and executive communications.
  • Play a pivotal role in managing multiple work streams and day-to-day assignments, establishing deadlines, the timely delivery of work products, and oversight of relationships with key internal stakeholders.

Job Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience with a deep background in media and industry relations, as well as proficiency in implementing integrated communications programs. Experience in corporate positioning, reputation management and executive communications is valuable.
  • A go-getter and resourceful problem solver – gets multiple and diverse projects moving and keeps them on track until completion on or before deadline. A strong team orientation and a high attention to detail are critical.
  • Well-developed skills in building and maintaining relationships with top-tier traditional and digital media. A demonstrated hands-on media approach is required; experience and/or existing relationships with engineering trade and/or national media a plus.
  • Superior writing skills, with the ability to develop and edit high-quality materials such as press releases, news and online media materials, newsletters, byline articles, trend analysis summaries, executive correspondence, talking points and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with senior-level executives and a diverse cross-section of internal stakeholders and/or clients on a day-to-day basis to carry out public relations plans effectively. High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple ongoing activities, negotiate approvals diplomatically and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in social media and experience in implementing integrated strategies via content and channel management.
  • Experience with media tracking and reporting, and generation of contact lists through Cision, Burrelles-Luce, Meltwater or similar media intelligence application. Knowledge of how to generate reports and leverage media metrics to demonstrate measurable results.
  • Keen ability to conduct media audits and industry research to inform strategy development.
  • Willingness to travel to Gannett Fleming offices and participate in industry events and professional conferences on a periodic basis
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field.
